Beginning next week, SQL Server Magazine contributing editor, columnist, and database-design expert Michelle A. Poolet will present a two-part series of 1-hour SQL Server Magazine LIVE! Webinars about database-design best practices. The first session, "Fourteen Steps to a Better Database Schema," will be held Tuesday, March 5, at 1:00 P.M. (Eastern time). Poolet will work through a full database-design analysis, from determining the reason for a database and reverse-engineering a physical design, to finding the physical design flaws, fixing them, and implementing the revised design. The second session, "Database Design from Beginning to End," will be held Tuesday, March 12, also at 1:00 P.M. (Eastern time). In this Webinar, Poolet will show you how to capture business requirements in an entity relationship diagram (ERD). She'll then convert the ERD to a working model of the database, adding the features that make a production database reliable, well functioning, and long-lasting. Finally, Poolet will demonstrate the value of CASE tools by generating the Data Definition Language (DDL) code to create a working database.
Each Webinar consists of a 45-minute presentation and a 15-minute Q&A session. During the Q&A session, each participant is guaranteed to receive an answer to one question relevant to the presentation, although you might receive answers to multiple questions time permitting. SQL Server Magazine also archives the presentation and questions and answers so that participants can replay and print the presentation and learn from the answers to other participants' questions. Online registration for all sessions will close at 12:00 A.M. (Mountain time) 2 days before the session. After that, you must register by phone at 970-203-2822 or by email at daenar@sqlmag.com. For more information about the presentations and the speaker, visit the SQL Server Magazine Web site.
